If you’re new here, we get tired of half-hearted attempts at market maps. They never seem to cover much of the picture and are therefore pretty useless other than as pretty artwork.
See this:
130 companies is laughably small for the entirety of PropTech. I track about 4,000 PropTech companies globally.
So we made our own.
Here is the one we made for Multifamily a few months ago.
And, since they are similar though not identical, we made one for Single Family Rentals.
If you are not familiar with the term, Single Family Rental (or SFR) is just homes that you own but do not occupy. People have been doing it for decades as vacation rentals but 10 or 15 years ago big RE companies entered the space and started amassing thousands of homes. Now it’s an institutional asset class like apartments, offices, etc.
So, it needs its own market map . . . and we made one.
It looks like this:
For now, I’m going to make this free to you guys can pick it apart and tell me what we screwed up. Once I feel like it’s better, I’ll make it for subscribers only.
Bring on the comments.
This is a great first go at a Market map as I have yet to see one for the SFR vertical. As for insights/feedback. It might be worth adding companies that assist on the SFR renter payment stub verification side. I believe Snappt and Payscore would be good additions. Also, an analytics category might be useful, where consumers go to gather data on the SFR market. Audiencetown does data for the space and would be a good place to start to look at competitors.
