If you’re unfamiliar with the Gartner Hype Cycle, I’ll give you a 2-minute crash course:
Step 1 - All new technologies experience an initial phase of irrational exuberance.
Step 2 - Once some of the use cases turn out to be mediocre or fraudulent, people dismiss the technology entirely.
Step 3 - Over time, people realize there actually are some legitimate, exciting use cases for the tech and start coming back to it.
Step 4 - The technology enjoys a more gradual, measured growth in terms of acceptance and adoption.
That’s known as the Gartner Hype Cycle and it’s well-documented.
